8888 Country Hills Blvd NW aka Royal Oak Center is a shopping centre with many plazas. This one is for the units number 125-198 in a plaza. This plaza was built in 2003 or 2004, but has had its current fire alarm system since July 2017. It is unknown why the alarms were replaced. This plaza consists of a Sobeys, Ohana Care, PetValu, Williams Paints, Subway, Freshii and Royal Oak Clinic.

System Specifications (2017-present)

FACP

The fire alarm system is a Mircom FX-2000 installed in 2017. It replaced an EST QuickStart QS1, after a CPU fail. The panel is located inside the entrance of Sobeys, and is commonly blocked by shopping carts, which is considered a code violation.

Notification Appliances

All of the indoor notification appliances are from System Sensor's "SpectrAlert Advance" lineup. The main notification appliances are System Sensor P2RA (red, wall mount, 2 wire) horn/strobes, which are all set to low volume, code-3, and 30cd. They are in place of the Genesis horn/strobes, even on the ceilings at Sobeys. For outdoor notification, there's a System Sensor SRKA (red, wall mount) weatherproof remote strobe outside of PetValu, which did not replace anything as there was no alarm there before. All of these alarms are operating independently, and were installed in 2017 along with the Mircom system.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All of the pull stations are Mircom MS-401AP "Advanced Protocol" pull stations. They are also installed where the original pull stations were.

Automatic Detection Devices

The smoke detectors are Mircom MIX-2251AP addressable photoelectric smoke detectors, installed in 2017 when the Mircom system was.

Former System Specifications (2003-2017)

System Type: Addressable

FACP

The original panel was an EST QuickStart QS1, installed during construction. It was where the Mircom FX-2000 is now. The system was replaced in 2017.

Notification Appliances

The original notification appliances seen on the walls of tenants were EST "Genesis" G1R-HDVM (red, wall mount, no FIRE marking) horn/strobes. On the ceilings of Sobeys were EST "Genesis" GC-HDVM (white, ceiling mount, no FIRE marking) horn/strobes. These were all replaced in 2017 with System Sensor "SpectrAlert Advance" horn/strobes. Unlike the Mircom system, there were no outdoor notification appliances.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

The original pull stations were EST SIGA-270 addressable pull stations. There was one from 2012 as a replacement by the pharmacy, but all of them were replaced in 2017 due to not being compatible with the FX-2000.

Automatic Detection Devices

The original smoke detectors were EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors.

List of known activations

July 12, 2018 - alarm at around 10:54 AM, activated by a pull station in the Sobeys backroom after being hit by an object. Store was almost evacuated, cause found to be false as confirmed by manager and Calgary Fire Department. Alarm shut off after 20 minutes.
