Stephen Avenue Place is a large office/retail complex located at 700 2 Street Southwest, in Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building has 41 floors, and is 155 metres tall (509 feet). The building opened in 1976, and the fire alarm system was fully upgraded in 2021.

The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The system is a large network with many nodes; the main node is possibly located in a CACF room. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The system is configured for two-stage operation, however the messages and/or tones are unknown at this time.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Simplex “TrueAlert” 4906-9154 speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 15cd). Some areas have Simplex 4902-9721 remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount) for additional sound coverage.

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004CA addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building, mounted on Simplex 4098-9792 addressable bases.

The building was protected by a Simplex 4100U hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The system was networked with several nodes; the location of the main node was unknown. The system was configured for two-stage operation, however the messages and/or tones were unknown.

Notification Appliances

All notification appliances were Simplex 2902-9316 remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount, 8” square, 25V). Some are still present, however are likely disconnected.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations were Simplex 4251-40 conventional two-stage single-action pull stations. Some areas had Simplex 2099-9107C conventional two-stage single-action pull stations as deficiency replacements.

Automatic Detection Devices

There were Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building, mounted on Simplex 4098-9792 addressable bases.
