11686-11698 Sarcee Trail NW is the address given to a small-medium plaza in the Beacon Hill Shopping Centre, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Its tenants are Winners & HomeSense, PetSmart, The Shoe Company, Structube and Reitman’s. The plaza was built in 2006, and most of the system remains original.

System Specifications

FACP

The plaza is protected by an EST QuickStart QS1 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is most likely located in a mechanical room at the back of the plaza, but was confirmed by an annunciator. It was installed in 2012, replacing an older variant that likely failed. The system runs EST’s Signature-series addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

Annunciators

There is an EST QSA-1-S annunciator cabinet with a QS1-CPU-1 LCD annunciator and an SL30 LED annunciator in the Winners entrance vestibule. It often gets blocked by a door, which is a code violation. As of September 2022, the screen has failed on the QS1-CPU-1, but the LEDs still work.

Notification Appliances

The interior notification appliances are all EST “Genesis” G1R-HDVM (red, wall-mount, no FIRE lettering) horn/strobes, set to 15cd each. For exterior notification, there is a System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” SRK (red, wall-mount) weatherproof remote strobe outside the entrance of The Shoe Company, and a System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” P2RKA (red, wall-mount, 2-wire) weatherproof horn/strobe by the loading docks, installed later.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270 Signature-series addressable pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

The plaza is mostly protected by waterflow, however a few EST SIGA-PS photoelectric smoke detectors have been spotted, mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases.
