Raven Meadows Golf Resort is a golf course located in Alder Flats, AB at 454065 Highway 22. Its amenities include a campground an 18-hole golf course, and formerly a hotel with a restaurant and pro shop. This page will cover the former hotel. The resort was opened in 1978, and the hotel underwent a system upgrade in 1989 confirmed by the heat detectors. As of August 2021, the system was not inspected in 15 years, the panel failed, and as a result was no longer able to detect fires. In October 2021, the hotel burnt down to the ground. The system was last serviced in 2006.
System Specifications (1989-2021)
FACP
The hotel was protected by an Edwards 6616 conventional fire alarm system. The panel was located in the entrance hallway, and was installed in 1989. The system had three zones in use, and the system coding was continuous. As of August 2021, the panel was in alarm for all three zones plus one unused zone, and was set to “Normal” with the alarm silenced LED lit. This is a main board failure, and therefore, the system was no longer functional.
Notification Appliances
All notification appliances except one were Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10” gong). The one in the lobby was vandalized; both labels removed, and the gong was mounted on the striker with a crosshead screw instead of the original hex bolt. In the hallway to the restaurant, there was an Edwards “Durabel” 6100D (10” gong) vibrating bell, painted over with white except for the label. The bells were installed in 1989.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
All pull stations except for one were Edwards 275-C111 conventional pull stations. These were installed with the 6616, and were located at every exit, including an awkward install by a sliding glass door pointed toward the door handle. There was one original Edwards 270-SPO in the restaurant hallway exit.
Automatic Detection Devices
There were Edwards 281C rate of rise/fixed-temperature heat detectors throughout the hotel. They were not replaced despite the recall due to the company being out of business by the time.
