Shouldice Aquatic Centre is an indoor swimming pool located at 5303 Bowness Rd NW, Calgary, AB. It is owned and operated by the City of Calgary. It originally opened as an outdoor pool in 1967, before being built over and converted into an indoor pool in 1980. It was then expanded and remodeled in 2012. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 1992, and again in 2007; the system remained through the 2012 renovations.

System Specifications (2007-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Mircom FX-2000 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main lobby. The system runs Mircom’s CLIP addressable protocol, and the system coding is continuous.
The FX-2000 replaced an Edwards 2280 in 2007 as part of an upgrade project for select city buildings.

Notification Appliances

Most audible notification appliances are Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10” gong).
There is an Edwards MB10-24 motor bell (10” gong) in the pool area as a deficiency replacement.
All aforementioned bells have Edwards 802-2B remote strobes (red, wall-mount, 1.5cd) mounted next to them, in all areas except for the basement and tunnel.
There is a Mircom “Select-a-Horn/Strobe” FHS-340R horn/strobe (red, wall-mount, set to continuous electromechanical/15cd) in the mens’ locker room as a deficiency replacement.
The storage room, added in 2012, has a System Sensor SSM24-10A motor bell (10” gong), installed as a deficiency replacement for a Mircom BL-10B motor bell (10” gong).

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are Mircom MS-401 conventional single-action pull stations, wired to Mircom MIX-M501MA addressable modules, located directly behind them.
There are Mircom MS-401AD addressable single-action pull stations as deficiency replacements.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Mircom MIX-5251RBA addressable 135-degree fixed temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors throughout the building.
The main lobby, pool storage room and the top of the basement mechanical room stairwell have Mircom MIX-2251BA addressable photoelectric smoke detectors.
The mechanical rooms have Mircom MIX-5251HBA addressable 135-degree fixed temperature heat detectors.
All detectors are mounted on System Sensor B710LPA bases.
