The Thornhill Aquatic & Recreation Centre is a pool and recreation centre owned and operated by the City of Calgary. The pool is located at 6715 Centre Street Northwest, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is attached to the Murray T. Copot Arena, an arena located at 6727 Centre St NW. The building was built in 1972, renovated in 2004, and the fire alarm system was upgraded in 2007.

System Specifications (2007-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Mircom FX-2000 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the arena electrical room. The system runs Mircom’s CLIP addressable protocol, and the system coding is continuous for the arena, and temporal for the aquatic centre.
The FX-2000 replaced an EST QuickStart QS1 in 2007 as part of an upgrade project for select buildings.

Booster Panels

There is an EST BPS6C 6-amp power supply in the electrical room.

Annunciators

There is a Mircom RAX-LCD annunciator in the main entrance vestibule.

Notification Appliances

Most areas have Edwards MB10-24 motor bells (10” gong) mounted on EST 403-5A-R strobe plates (15cd).
There is a Wheelock RSSP-24MCW strobe plate (red, set to 15cd) in the pool area as a deficiency replacement, the bell is still intact.
The pool lobby and corridor have Edwards MB6-24 motor bells (6” gong) mounted on EST 403-5A-R strobe plates (15cd).
These bell/strobes were installed in 2004.
The parks depot has a Simplex 2901-9720 motor bell (6" gong) and an EST "Genesis" G1R-VM remote strobe (red, wall-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) next to it. The Simplex bell was left over from the previous two systems.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations but one are Mircom MS-401AD addressable single-action pull stations.
There is an original Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull station in the parks depot, wired to a Mircom MIX-M501MA addressable monitor module.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Mircom MIX-2251BA addressable photoelectric smoke detectors at the top of each stairwell.
The arena electrical room, pool electrical room, pool basement electrical room, and southwest pool tunnel have Mircom MIX-5251RBA addressable 135°F fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
All detectors are mounted on System Sensor B710LPA bases.
There are Mircom MIX-DH200PLA addressable photoelectric smoke detectors in the second floor pool view, and on the tunnel air handling unit.

Modules

There are Mircom MIX-M501MA addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There are Mircom MIX-M500RA addressable relays for shutting down the air handling units and the door magnet release (EST 1508-AQN5).

Pull Stations

All pull stations but one were EST SIGA-270 addressable single-action pull stations.
There is an Edwards 270-SPO conventional pull station in the parks depot, this was wired to an EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor module. This pull station remains, but is now wired to a Mircom MIX-M501MA module.
