Southcentre Mall is a large indoor shopping mall located at 100 Anderson Road Southeast, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The mall is owned by Oxford Properties, and has over 160 stores. The mall originally opened in 1974, and was extensively renovated in 2009. The fire alarm system for the main mall was installed in 2009, and the FACP was replaced in 2020, and the Decathlon/Earls/Petsmart/Winners/Dollarama system was installed in 2021 and 2023 as the former Sears' space.

Sporting Life and Hudson's Bay have their own systems. All systems are networked into each other to trip when one goes into alarm, and were installed due to the mall’s panel not having enough capacity.

System Specifications (Main Mall) (2009-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Siemens Desigo Life Safety Modular addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main security office, with a sub panel in the east entrance vestibule. The system runs Siemens’ FirePrint addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal coding is 20BPM, followed by temporal as the alarm signal. The two-stage timer length is five minutes.

The Desigo replaced a Siemens MXL in 2020.

Notification Appliances

All notification appliances are Siemens MTH-MC-R-B horn/strobes (red, wall-mount). These are set to the horn tone.

Some areas have Siemens U-MCS remote strobes (red, wall-mount) above the ceiling, however the purpose and status of these is unknown.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Siemens HMS-2S addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Siemens FDBZ492-HR duct smoke detectors with FDO421 photoelectric heads on them throughout the mall. Each detector is located near an air handling unit, and has a Siemens RL-HC remote LED indicator mounted on the drop ceiling below the device.

The professional offices and elevator shafts have Siemens FDOOT441 addressable multisensor smoke/heat detectors. There is also a sprinkler system with waterflow detection.

Modules

There are Siemens XTRI-M addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.
