CF Market Mall is a large mall located at 3625 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB. It is a one-level shopping centre, with the anchor stores being Hudson’s Bay (which is two floors), Sport Chek, Safeway, among others. The mall is owned by Cadillac Fairview. It was built in 1971, and had expansions in 1988, and again in 2004. The fire alarm system was installed following the 2004 expansion.
System Specifications (2004-present)
FACP
The mall is protected by an Edwards EST3 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The system is a network, one panel has been found in the Safeway entrance vestibule, and the main node is in the security office; this one is equipped with a 3-REMICA microphone. The system is not equipped with voice-evacuation, but when activated, it silences the horns and keeps the strobes flashing, and the mic feed goes through the mall’s PA system. The system runs EST’s Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal coding is 20BPM, followed by temporal for the evacuation signal.
The system had a glitch in 2018 during an alarm condition where the coding flipped to march time for a few seconds a few times. The horns are noticeably out of sync.
Prior to 2021, one of the NACs was set to continuous for the evacuation signal.
Annunciators
There are EST 3-LCDANN LCD annunciators located in most entrances.
Notification Appliances
Most notification appliances are from EST's "Integrity" line of products.
Main Mall Corridors
All corridor notification appliances are EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobes (white, wall-mount, 15/75cd) and 757-1A-TW horns (white), mounted in a pattern of horn/strobe, horn, horn/strobe, horn.
The horn/strobes have the standard LKW-1 lenses, but are on the ceilings.
Tenants
The tenants mostly contain an EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobe (white, wall-mount, 15/75cd).
Some tenants contain 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd).
Other tenants contain 757-5A-T (red, wall-mount, 15cd) or 757-7A-TW (white, wall-mount, 15cd) horn/strobes as deficiency replacements.
They are mostly mounted on the ceilings, but some have them on the walls.
Toys R Us (Former)
The notification appliances were left untouched during the upgrades in 2004, and were Edwards 882-2B horns (red, electronic).
They were installed in 1992 when the store opened, the panel at the time was an Edwards 6500. As of January 2024, the space is now a Decathlon store, and these horns do not exist anymore.
There are now Edwards 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd) suspended from the ceiling.
Safeway
The notification appliances were redone in 2020, most likely for uniform sound.
They are Edwards 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd), which replaced System Sensor “SpectrAlert” P241575A horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd). These were set to continuous electromechanical horn.
There is an EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobe on the ceiling in the hallway to the mall, which was the only alarm not replaced.
Exterior
The outdoor notification appliances are mostly EST CS405-7A-T weatherproof remote strobes (red, 15/75cd) , on two sides of the building.
In the covered areas, such as the loading docks, there are EST 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd).
One side of the mall has an EST 757-1A-T remote horn (red) by a loading dock.
There is an EST CS405-7A-T outside the Safeway, installed in 2020 replacing a System Sensor “SpectrAlert” S1224MCKA (red, wall-mount, multi-candela) weatherproof remote strobe.

Pull Stations
The pull stations are mostly EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations, installed during the upgrade. Newer variants can be found as deficiency replacements.
Near the Toys R Us, there are Edwards 270-GAO conventional two-stage pull stations, installed in 1988.
There is one Edwards 270P-SPO installed as a deficiency replacement for an original Edwards 270-GAO.
In the Safeway, there are Edwards 270P-SPO conventional two-stage pull stations, installed in 2021 replacing Grinnell MS-402GR two-stage conventional pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices
Most of the mall is protected by waterflow, however there have been a few EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors spotted in open ceilings.
Newer tenants contain Edwards SIGA-PD addressable photoelectric smoke detectors. All are mounted on SIGA-SB bases.
Modules
There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's flow and tamper switches.
