The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is a technical college/trades school located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This page will cover Building E, the technical building, which also houses many administrative services. It was built in 1963, and the fire alarm system was upgraded around 1989, and finally in 2016.
System Specifications (2016-present)[edit | edit source]
FACP[edit | edit source]
The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel location is unknown, is equipped with the InfoAlarm Command Centre, and is part of a campus-wide network. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice-evacuation. The evacuation tone is slow whoop followed by a custom message.
The 4100ES replaced a Simplex 4100+ in 2016, which in turn replaced a Simplex 2120 in 1996.
Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]
Most notification appliances are Simplex “LifeAlarm” 2902-9711 speakers (red, re-entrant, surface mount). These are mounted on Atlas-Soundolier TVTA-R bidirectional mounts on the ceiling, with two speakers.
Renovated areas have Simplex “TrueAlert” 4906-9154 speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 15cd).
The annexes to G and O, and individual classrooms have Simplex 2902-9314 speakers (8”, round, 25V, ceiling-mount).
At each annex, there are FIRE - DO NOT ENTER signs, each of which contain a Simplex 4904-9101 remote strobe (red, wall-mount, 4.75cd).

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]
Most pull stations are Simplex 4099-9001 addressable single-action pull stations.
There are also some Simplex 4099-9004 addressable single-action pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]
There are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout, mounted on 4098-9792 bases.
Modules[edit | edit source]
There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relays for elevator recall.
Voice Evac Message Script[edit | edit source]
"May I have your attention please! May I have your attention please! There has been a fire alarm condition reported in the building. While this being verified, please leave the building by the nearest exit or exit stairway. Do not use the elevators."
