Davis K-8 School is a elementary-middle school located at 380 Plain St, Brockton, MA. It is part of the Brockton School District. The school was built in 1974, and got expanded to have new “pods” in 2012. The system is not original, and is currently unknown at this time.
Former System Specifications (1974-2015)[edit | edit source]
FACP[edit | edit source]
The school was protected by the original Simplex 4208 conventional fire alarm system and a Simplex 4010 addressable fire alarm system. The panels were located in an electrical room, and were tied into each other. The 4010 replaced a Simplex 4004 in the 2000s, which in turn replaced a Simplex 2001. T
he 4208 had a capacity for 4 zones, handled all the pull stations and heat detectors, while the 4010 was for monitoring, the new duct detectors, as well as the notification appliances. The 4010 ran Simplex’s MAPNET II addressable protocol, and the system coding was 20BPM march time.
The system was replaced in early 2015 due to the 4208 failing after 41 years in service.

There was a Simplex graphic annunciator in the lobby.
Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]
Most notification appliances were the original Simplex 4051 mechanical horns on Simplex 4050-80 incandescent light plates (single-bulb, most with no lettering, some with white FIRE lettering), which could be found throughout.
The small gym/playroom and the large gym have Space Age Electronics AV32 (red lens, large gym FIRE lettering, small gym no lettering), installed as deficiency replacements; the 4051 horns remain. The other two original horn/light combos were still up in the large gym.
There was a Wheelock NS-24MCW (red, wall-mount, multi-candela) horn/strobe as a deficiency replacement in the 2000s. The light plate is still intact, but is disconnected.
The boiler room had Simplex 4903-9236 electronic horn/strobes (red, horizontal, 15cd), installed in 1998.
The new pods that were built in 2012 had System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” P4R (red, wall-mount, 4-wire, set to continuous) horn/strobes that were used on the 4010.
As of 2013, a 4051 horn had been rewired twice and was on a double-gang backbox over the 4050-80.
Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]
Pull Stations[edit | edit source]
Most pull stations were the original Simplex 4251-30 dual-action break-glass pull stations. Some of them had their break-glass function removed over the years, and the ones in the gym were behind metal wires. There were also three Edwards 270-SPO pull station installed in the late 1990s-early 2000s, as well as two AIP AI270-SPO pull stations, these were installed as deficiency replacements.
The boiler room had Federal Signal 4050-001T pull stations, installed in 1998.
In the main lobby and cafetorium, there was one Simplex 2099-9103 dual-action break glass pull station each, installed as deficiency replacements.
The new “pods” had Notifier NBG-12 dual-action pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]
There were Simplex 4255-1 fixed temperature/rate of rise mechanical heat detectors throughout, which were likely original.
In the cafetorium, there was a Simplex 4262-20 ionization smoke detector on a 4262-21 base installed as a deficiency replacement.
In 1998, there were Simplex 4098-9703 duct detectors installed throughout with 4098-9701 2-wire addressable photoelectric sensors inside them. They were connected to Simplex 2098-9806 test stations.
