Ruth King Elementary is an elementary school located at 2764 Jacklin Road, Victoria, BC. It is part of the Sooke School District. The school opened in 1948, and is the oldest school in the district. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 2020, with parts ranging from the 1960s to 2020.

System Specifications (2020-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Notifier NFS-320C hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the electrical room. Most of the school is set up as conventional, while the stairwells and portables are addressable. The system runs Notifier’s FlashScan addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

Annunciators[edit | edit source]

There is a Notifier ACM-24AT LED annunciator at the entrance.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All notification appliances are System Sensor “L-Series” P2RLA horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to electromechanical/15cd).

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

Most pull stations in the main building are Edwards 270-SPO conventional pull stations. Most of these were installed in the 1970s, however there is one from the 1960s and one installed as a deficiency replacement in the 1990s.
There is one Edwards 270-SPOW conventional pull station as a deficiency replacement.
Other deficiency replacements are EST SIGA-270 addressable pull stations, with the modules removed to be conventional.
The portables have Notifier NBG-12LX addressable dual-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards 281C conventional 135 degree fixed temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors throughout the building.
There is one Edwards 281B-PL conventional 135 degree fixed temperature/rate-of-rise heat detector as a deficiency replacement.
There are Notifier FSP-951A addressable photoelectric smoke detectors in the stairwells, mounted on System Sensor B300A-6 bases.
The portables have Notifier FSP-851A addressable photoelectric smoke detectors, mounted on System Sensor B210LPA bases.
The building was also sprinklered with the upgrade.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Notifier FMM-1A addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all conventional, sprinkler and signal circuits.
