Cochrane Arena is an ice hockey arena located at 609 Fourth Avenue North, in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. The arena opened in 1960, renovated in 1974, and was the first arena in the town of Cochrane. The fire alarm system was mostly upgraded in 1990, with parts ranging from the early 1980s to the 2010s.
The arena is owned by the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.
System Specifications (1990-present)[edit | edit source]
FACP[edit | edit source]
The building is protected by an Edwards 2280 conventional fire alarm system. The panel location is unknown. The system coding is continuous for all bells, and the horn/strobes are self-coded to temporal.
Annunciators[edit | edit source]
There is an Edwards annunciator at the main entrance, model unknown.
Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]
Dressing Room Hallway[edit | edit source]
All notification appliances are Edwards "Genesis" G1R-HDVM horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, no lettering, set to 15cd) mounted on Edwards G1TR trim plates (red).
These were installed in the mid-2000s for some unknown reason, likely for volume concerns, however this is a code violation.
Arena/Lobby[edit | edit source]
The main lobby has an Edwards "Durabel" 6100D vibrating bell (6" gong), which remained from the previous system.
The main arena has a Wheelock MB-G6-24 motor bell (6" gong) as a deficiency replacement for an aforementioned bell, or for volume as it is the only bell.
Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]
Pull Stations[edit | edit source]
Most pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations, installed with the 2280.
Deficiency replacements are:
- Mircom MS-401 conventional single-action pull stations in several areas, installed between 2010 and 2016
- Notifier NFM-950B conventional single-action pull station next to the main entrance.
- Notifier MPS-950B conventional single-action pull station in the main arena.
Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]
There are Edwards EC30U-3 conventional photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building. These were installed in the mid-2010s.
Code Violations[edit | edit source]
This building has horn/strobes and bells mixed. This is against code, as according to CAN-ULC codes, the sound of an alarm signal must be uniform. [[]
