Banff Gondola is a tourist attraction located at 100 Mountain Ave, Banff, AB. It is a gondola ride on Sulphur Mountain with an amazing view. This page will cover the main building/lower terminal. It was builti in 1959, and rebuilt in 1998. The fire alarm system is 90% original.
System Specifications (1998-present)[edit | edit source]
FACP[edit | edit source]
The building is protected by a Notifier NFS2-640C conventional fire alarm system. The panel is located in the Starbucks, next to an emergency exit and near a fireplace. The panel has the NCA-2 display, and two zone cards in it; a Notifier XP6-MA 6-zone smoke detector card, as well as a Notifier XP-10MA 10-zone card. The system coding is likely continuous.
This panel replaced an EST 6616 in 2016, so each terminal can be networked.
Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]
Most notification appliances are Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bells (6" gong).
These can be found in three different setups: remotely (no strobe), on an EST 403-5A-R strobe plate (15cd), or with an EST 202-5A-T strobe (red, wall-mount, 15cd) next to it, the latter is more common.
By the main entrance, there is an Edwards MB6-24 motor bell (6" gong) as a deficiency replacement.
Some areas have Edwards 202-5A-T remote strobes (15cd, red, wall-mount) for additional coverage.
The gondola boarding area has an Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bell (10" gong), with a 202-5A-T strobe next to it due to higher ambient noise levels.
Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]
Pull Stations[edit | edit source]
All pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]
There are System Sensor 1451A ionization smoke detectors throughout the building, as well as some System Sensor 5601A 135-degree fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors in the main lobby, restrooms, and other areas. The heat detectors were installed in 2021, replacing Edwards 281C rate-of-rise/fixed heat detectors due to a recall.
EOLs[edit | edit source]
There are Edwards EOL-P1 end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
Recent Replacements[edit | edit source]
In 2021, the Edwards 281C heat detectors were replaced with System Sensor 5601A heat detectors, due to a recall affecting the Edwards detectors.
