Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre is a swimming pool & fitness centre located at 4812 14 Ave SE, Calgary, AB. It is owned and operated by the City of Calgary. The facility was built in 1970, and underwent a major renovation between 1999 and 2000. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 2000 and 2006, and was fully replaced in 2024.
Some devices were salvaged from the 2007-2024 system, and are in the Fire Alarmpedia collection.

System Specifications (2024-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Notifier NFS-320C addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule. The system runs Notifier's FlashScan addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are System Sensor "SpectrAlert Advance" P2RKA weatherproof horn/strobes (red, wall-mount), likely chosen due to the ambient humidity in the building.
Some areas have System Sensor SRKA weatherproof remote strobes (red, wall-mount); there is also one unit outside the main entrance.

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Notifier NBG-12LX addressable dual-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Notifier FST-951RA addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors throughout the building.
There are Notifier FST-951HA addressable 190°F fixed-temperature heat detectors in areas with high ambient temperatures.
There are Notifier FSP-951A addressable photoelectric smoke detectors at the top of each stairwell.
All detectors are mounted on System Sensor B300A-6 bases.

Modules

There are Notifier FRM-1A addressable relay modules serving various purposes.
There are Notifier ISO-XA isolator modules on the SLC.

EOLs

There are Notifier EOL-CR end of line resistor plates on all signal circuits.

FACP

The building was protected by a Mircom FX-2000 addressable fire alarm system. The panel was located in the main entrance vestibule. The system ran Mircom’s CLIP addressable protocol, and the system coding is continuous.
The FX-2000 replaced a Simplex 4020 as part of an upgrade project for select buildings.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances were Simplex 2901-9723 motor bells (6” gong) mounted on Wheelock RSSP-2415W-FR strobe plates (red, 15cd).
There were Mircom BL-10B motor bells (10” gong) mounted on Wheelock RSSP-24MCW-FR strobe plates (red, set to 15cd) as deficiency replacements in some areas.
There was an Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bell (6” gong) mounted on an EST “Integrity” 403-5A-R strobe plate (15cd) in the basement mechanical room, also a deficiency replacement.

There was an Edwards 270-SPOW conventional single-action pull station in the pool area.
There was a Fire-Lite MPS-950BF conventional pull station at the main entrance as a deficiency replacement.
All above pull stations were wired to Mircom MIX-M501MA addressable monitor modules.
There was a Mircom MS-401AP addressable single-action pull station at the east exit as a deficiency replacement.

Automatic Detection Devices

There were Mircom MIX-2251BA addressable photoelectric smoke detectors at the top of each stairwell.
There were Mircom MIX-5251RBA addressable 135°F fixed temperature heat detectors throughout the building.
In areas with higher ambient temperatures, there were Mircom MIX-5251HBA addressable 135°F fixed temperature heat detectors
All above detectors are mounted on System Sensor B210LPA bases.
There was a Mircom MIX-5351RAPA addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate of rise heat detector in the mechanical room, mounted on a System Sensor B300A-6 base as a deficiency replacement.
