CN Walker Rail Car Shop is a railcar shop located at 12100 Yellowhead Trail, Edmonton, AB. The building also houses the control tower. The rail car shop was built in 1950, and the control tower was built in 1969. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 1990, and partially added on in 2019.
System Specifications (1990-present)[edit | edit source]
FACP[edit | edit source]
The building is protected by a Simplex 4002 conventional fire alarm system. The panel is located in the control tower closet. The system coding is continuous.
Annunciators[edit | edit source]
There is a Simplex 4602-9102 annunciator paired with a Simplex 4602-9101 annunciator in the main entrance.
Booster Panels[edit | edit source]
There is an Edwards BPS6A 6-amp booster power supply located in the shipping/receiving entrance, powering the outdoor and jack pit signaling devices.
Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]
Most notification appliances are Simplex 2901-9722 motor bells (10” gong).
There is an Edwards MB10-24 motor bell (10” gong) in shipping and receiving as a deficiency replacement.
There is an Edwards “Genesis” G1-HDVM horn/strobe (white, wall-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) and Edwards G1-VM remote strobe (white, wall-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) in the jack pit.
For exterior notification, there is an Edwards “Adaptatone” 5530MD heavy-duty high-decibel electronic horn (gray, set to horn) on the northwest corner of the building, and the northeast corner of the building has an Edwards “Duotronic” 5520D explosion-proof high-decibel electronic horn (set to horn) paired with an Edwards CS405-8A-T weatherproof remote strobe (red, 110cd).
Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]
Pull Stations[edit | edit source]
Most pull stations are Simplex 2099-9901 conventional single-action pull stations.
There are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations the lower lunchroom, some areas of the shop, jack pit, and main locker room, installed in 1988.
There are GE-branded 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations as deficiency replacements.
Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]
There are Simplex 4255-51 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors throughout the building.
Some offices, the generator room and main stairwell have Simplex 4255-53 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature heat detectors.
There are System Sensor 5601A conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors in some areas as deficiency replacements.
The third floor and control tower have System Sensor “i3” conventional photoelectric smoke detectors.
The main shipping and receiving area has Edwards 281C conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
The jack pit has a mix of Edwards 281B-PL and FDD CR-135 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
There is a System Sensor "InnovairFlex" D2A conventional photoelectric duct smoke detector on each air handling unit, these replaced Simplex 2098-9465 duct smoke detector housings with 2098-9110 conventional ionization heads.
EOLs[edit | edit source]
There is a mix of Simplex 2081-9018 and red end-of-line resistor plates on all circuits.
