Hillside Estates is a pair of apartment buildings owned and managed by Boardwalk. This page will cover Building B, located at 320 Grier Ave NE, Calgary, Alberta. The building was completed in 1980, and the fire alarm system is mostly original with a partial upgrade in 2005. Additionally, parts have been replaced as deficiencies occur.
System Specifications
FACP
The building is protected by a Mircom FA-1000 conventional fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule. The system coding is temporal.
This panel replaced an Edwards Custom 6500 in 2005; the FA-1000 is mounted in the 6500's cabinet.
Notification Appliances
Most notification appliances are Edwards "Durabel" 6100D vibrating bells (6" gong).
The following bells were installed as deficiency replacements:
- Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bells (6" gong) throughout
- Mircom BL-10B motor bell (10" gong) on second floor
- Mircom BL-6B motor bell (6" gong)
- Mircom BL-6A motor bell (6" gong) in parkade
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
Most pull stations are a mix of Mircom MS-401 and Notifier NFM-950B conventional single-action pull stations.
There is a Tyco/Grinnell MS-401GR conventional single-action pull station at the first floor fire doors as a deficiency replacement.
Automatic Detection Devices
There are System Sensor C2W-BA conventional photoelectric smoke detectors located throughout all above-ground corridors and at the top of each stairwell.
There are Edwards 245A conventional 135°F fixed-temperature heat detectors in the main floor stairwell vestibules, each garbage room on each floor, and the main electrical room.
The main entrance vestibule has a System Sensor 5601A conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detector as a deficiency replacement.
EOLs
There are Mircom MP-300 end-of-line resistor plates on all circuits.
