Hys Centre is a medical office building located at 11010 101 St NW, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The building was built in 1979, and the fire alarm system was upgraded in the 2000s.

System Specifications (2000s-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Siemens FireFinder XLS addressable fire alarm system. The panel location is unknown. The system runs Siemens’ FirePrint addressable protocol, and is partially equipped with voice evacuation. The coding on all horn/strobes is temporal. Please see below for additional information.

Annunciators[edit | edit source]

There is a Siemens SSD-C annunciator in the main lobby.
There are two annunciators mounted in the front desk; one is solely zone annunciation, and the other is a remote microphone cabinet for paging.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

Most notification appliances are Siemens U-MHT-MCS-B horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd).
Some areas have Siemens ZH-MC-R-B horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd), installed either as part of a renovation, or as deficiency replacements.
There are Soundolier U164-8 remote speakers in all stairwells.
There is one Soundolier UT720-8 remote speaker on each floor.

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

Most pull stations are Siemens HMS-S addressable single-action pull stations.
There is a Siemens HMS-SA addressable single-action pull station in Mama Roza’s Garden Childcare as a deficiency replacement.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Siemens HFP-11 addressable multisensor smoke/heat detectors in some areas and in all stairwells, mounted on Siemens DB-11 bases.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Siemens HTRI-D addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

Firefighter’s Telephones[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards 6830-4 firefighter’s telephones on all floors.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are a mix of Siemens EL-300C and Edwards EOL-P1 end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

Sequence of Operation[edit | edit source]

Upon initiation of an alarm, all horn/strobes will sound. Speakers are used solely for live announcements, and only activate when a microphone is keyed. Horns will silence during announcements, but strobes will continue flashing. Upon conclusion of an announcement, all horns will resume sounding.
