Metropolis at Metrotown is the sixth largest shopping mall in Canada. The mall is located at 4700 Kingsway, in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. The mall was built in 1986, was expanded in 1992, and was renovated and expanded in 2005. The fire alarm system was upgraded as part of the 2005 renovation.

System Specifications (2005-present)

Please note that some system details are unconfirmed as only some portions of the mall have been explored. This page should not be used for official purposes.

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. This is a networked system with many nodes; the main node is likely located in the security office. The system runs Edwards' Signature addressable protocol, is equipped with voice evacuation, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal is likely a 20BPM tone, and the alarm signal is likely a temporal tone. It is unknown if pre-recorded messages are played.

FACP Accessories

There is likely an Edwards FireWorks graphic computer in the security office, due to the size of the building.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Simplex 2902-9317 remote speakers (white, 8" square, 70V) mixed with Simplex 2902-9315 remote speakers (white, 8" round, 70V).
Some areas have Simplex 2902-9311 remote speakers (white, 4" round, 70V).

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the mall, in the entrance archway of each tenant, at each glass panel in open areas, and at the top of each stairwell.
Some areas have Edwards SIGA-PD and SIGA-OSD addressable photoelectric smoke detectors as deficiency replacements.
There are EST SIGA-HRS addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors in some areas.
All aforementioned detectors are mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases; some are equipped with SIGA-TS trim skirts.
There are EST SIGA-DH duct smoke detector housings equipped with EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric heads on most air handling units; all other units are equipped with EST "SuperDuct" SIGA-SD addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors as deficiency replacements.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the generator's run/trouble contacts, the fire pump's run/trouble contacts, all kitchen suppression systems, and the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.
There are EST SIGA-CR addressable relay modules serving various purposes.
There are EST SIGA-IM addressable isolator modules on all SLCs.

EOLs

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end of line resistor plates on all circuits supervised by monitor modules, and on all signal circuits.
