NG Tower Centre is high-rise apartment building located at 115 2 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The tower was built in 1978, and the fire alarm system is mostly original with a partial upgrade in 2013.

System Specifications

FACP

The building is protected by a Notifier NFS2-3030C hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located next to the elevator lobby. The system runs Notifier's FlashScan addressable protocol, and is equipped with Notifier's "Digital Voice Command" voice-evacuation system. The system coding is continuous.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Edwards "Durabel" 6100D vibrating bells (6" gong).
The following bells are installed as deficiency replacements:

  • Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bells (6" gong)
  • Mircom BL-6B motor bells (6" gong)
  • Simplex 2901-9723 motor bell (6" gong) in main floor lobby

There are System Sensor SP201WA-25 speakers (white, wall-mount, 25V) in the centre of each floor plus the stairwells on every third level.
Some areas have Mircom SP-204A-25 speakers (white, square, 4").

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations.
There are Edwards 270-DOC conventional single-action pull stations on the first floor, also original to the building.
The following pull stations are installed as deficiency replacements:

  • Mircom MS-401 conventional single-action pull stations
  • Simplex MS-301C conventional single-action pull stations in some areas
  • Notifier NFM-950B conventional single-action pull station by 4th floor south exit

Automatic Detection Devices

There are System Sensor C2W-BA conventional photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the corridors and daycare.
There are Notifier FSP-851A addressable photoelectric smoke detectors at each elevator lobby.
The top of the elevator shaft has a Notifier FST-851RA addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detector.
All Notifier detectors are mounted on Notifier B710LPA bases.
There is a System Sensor DNRA duct smoke detector housing with a Notifier FSP-851A addressable photoelectric head on the main air handling unit. A Mircom TH-102 heater is installed in the weatherproof enclosure.
The garbage rooms on each floor contain a System Sensor 5601A conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detector each.
There are FDD CF-135 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature heat detectors in the generator and electrical rooms.

Modules

There are Notifier FRM-1A addressable relay modules serving various purposes.
There are Notifier ISO-XA isolator modules on the SLC.

EOLs

There are unbranded end-of-line resistor plates on all conventional and signal circuits.

Sequence of Operation

The bells are used for signaling. Upon initiation of an alarm, all bells will sound. Speakers are used solely for live announcements, and only activate when a microphone is keyed. Bells will silence during announcements. Upon conclusion of an announcement, the bells continue sounding.
