Calgary International Airport

From FireAlarmPedia

Calgary International Airport, also simply known as YYC Airport is an international airport that serves Calgary. It is in NE Calgary. It is the fourth largest airport in Canada, and the largest and busiest airport in Alberta. It was built in the late 1930s, and the Domestic terminal was built in 1977, and the International terminal was built in 2016. The International terminal has the original fire alarm system, but the Domestic terminal does not. It does have hotels, some with their own fire alarm system. System Specifications (Domestic Terminal)

FACP

The fire alarm system for this terminal is also a two stage Simplex 4100ES fire alarm system. Unlike the other terminal, this one is not voice-evac. It replaced a Simplex 4100U system in around 2016, and the 4100ES control units are in the 4100U cabinets, due to the easy replacement. The cabinets now have Simplex 4100ES badging. One panel is located in the airlock of Departures Door 1. When the system goes into fire alarm, it does 20BPM march time in first stage, and temporal/code-3 in general alarm.

Notification Appliances

The main notification appliances are Simplex 2901-9724 motor bells on Wheelock RSSP-24MCW strobe plates. For additional visual coverage, there are some Simplex 4904-9105 remote strobes scattered throughout the terminal. The bell/strobes were installed when the 4100U was installed, and the remote strobes were from a previous system as they were discontinued around 1995 and the 4100U being installed around the 2000s.

Bonus Information

-The 4100ES in the Domestic Terminal set an Instagram record for actual troubles, with a whopping 102 troubles! There was one with more troubles, but it had many disabled points, whereas this one did not.

-This is the only major airport in North America to use bell/strobes for notification appliances.
